Kim was asking about which tripod I would recommend. There are many options out there and they range in price from less than $20 for a WalMart special to several hundred dollars for a carbon fiber tripod. When recommending one, the first thing I will tell you is to get the best that you can afford.

I have an older Monfrotto tripod that was bought when I was dabbling in large format photography. It is great but large and heavy. I started doing some research to find a versatile lightweight and affordable tripod and came across the Vanguard line. They have gotten some good reviews.

Look at the Vanguard Alta Pro 264AT Aluminum Alloy Tripod Legs with Multi-Angle Central Column System

Or the Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Alloy Tripod Legs with Multi-Angle Central Column System which looks to be a little heavier and longer when folded up.

A good lightweight ball head for your tripod Vanguard SBH-30 Lightweight Magnesium Alloy Ball Head

If you want a more heavy duty head go with the Vanguard SBH-250 Magnesium Ball Head with Sliding Quick Shoe

Both of these heads have a quick shoe that you can leave attached to the bottom of your camera making it easy to take on and off for shooting.

I think these tripods come with one but if they don’t I would also recommend getting yourself a case to store/carry it in. They are a pain to tote around without one.
